What we Do

Our primary causes

TPI provides direct financial support to several Tibetan Buddhist Nunneries including Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery and Tayul Nunnery in India and Lhapag Nunnery in Tibet.

These donations supported building retreat huts and grounds work, daily maintenance, salaries, medical care and daily meals for Nuns.

Did you know that...

Most of the nuns in Tibetan Buddhist nunneries in India come from the Himalayan region?

Most people think that all of the monks and nuns in Tibetan monastic institutions in exile are all of Tibetan origin but that is seldom the case anymore. The nunneries we support in India are mostly populated by women from areas such as Lahaul, Spiti, Kinnaur, Ladakh, Zanskar, etc.

Our Initiatives

Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery

The main project under the umbrella of Tenzin Palmo Initiatives. DGL Nunnery is a place created by Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo for Himalayan women ordained in the Drukpa Kagyu Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

It has the unique characteristic of being a place where nuns have access to training in philosophy, ritual as well as meditation practice.

Tayul Gompa

Located in the Himalayan Valley of Lahaul, Tayul Gompa is very close to Jetsunma’s heart since she lived there for 6 years before going to her famous cave which is located a few hours walk from Tayul itself. To this day she is well known and loved by the nuns who continue to live in this remote place.

Lhapag Nunnery

Laphag Nunnery has a special connection with DGL Nunnery. His Eminence the 9th Khamtrul Rinpoche Shedrup Nyima has asked Jetsunma to support Laphag Nunnery, the sister nunnery to Rinpoche’s seat at Khampagar Monastery in Tibet.

The nuns at Laphag Nunnery are all serious practitioners of many years. Initially, the nuns were living in cotton tents, continuing to practice through the harsh Tibetan winters at high altitude and below-freezing temperatures. Given these conditions, improving the nuns’ living situation has been a high priority.

May all beings everywhere

be well and happy
